5, Still the skirt

This picture shows a student at the serger, finishing the edges after completing the pockets. One of the students managed to finish her skirt this day, zipper, lining, buttonhole, hand sewn hem and all. Impressive. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the finished skirt.

  1. I like your photos very much- the focus is on the material and the activity. Do the students document the process with pictures? I know that is something that is a methodology in many VET program - like a virtual portfolio.

  2. I agree Ingrid. In Australian schools, the design and technology students in senior school make up portfolios about their major project and this is marked as part of the whole task. These are sometimes digital but with phones etc a digital portfolio would work really well here to keep a record of the skills learned and the finished products

  3. By the way, looking at this photo I can see that what you call a 'serger' is called an ' interlocker' here. Wonderful work.

  4. A virtual portfolio is a great idea, but they don't do it now. Maybe they will further on, I'm not sure. But I'll keep it in mind.
They are supposed to keep the samples they make, for future reference. Since this is their first year, everything is still new to them, and they make quite basic things.

  5. I really like the idea with a virtual portfolio. In the floristry education they have a scrapbook there they can gathering pictures of their work. I think that the virtual portfolio would be more modern and more useful in the future.
